Mariska Veres was a Dutch singer. She was born on October 1, 1947, and was best known as the lead singer of the rock group Shocking Blue. Mariska Veres was also known for her sultry voice, eccentric performances, and her striking appearance.
She was born in The Hague, in the Netherlands and her parents were the Hungarian Romani violinist Lajos Veres (1912–1981) and Maria Ender (1912–1986). Her career as a singer started off in 1963 when she was a member of the guitar band Les Mysteres.
She was involved in the recording of an EP for Les Mysteres as she did some singing on Side 1 of the EP. It MUST BE noted that in 1965, she was with the Bumble Bee and also became a member of the Blue Fighters, Danny and his Favourites and General Four at different times.
She also performed with the Motowns in 1966. Mariska Veres replaced Fred de Wilde as the lead singer with Shocking Blue in 1968. She pursued a solo career when Shocking Blue collapsed on June 1, 1974.
Mariska Veres founded the jazz group called The Shocking Jazz Quintet in 1993, and recorded the album Shocking You with pop songs from the 1960s and 1970s, now in a jazz version

Mariska Veres was reported dead on December 2, 2006. She was 59 years old at the time of her death.
She died of gallbladder cancer. She was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer three weeks before her death. She was never married and did not have any children even though he had been dating guitarist André van Geldorp for a long period.
