Hans Albers can be described as a German actor and singer. He was born on September 22, 1891, and without a doubt, he was one of the most popular German actors of the twentieth century; specifically between 1930 and 1960.

It must be noted that he was born in Hamburg to a butcher. Even though he was born in Hamburg, he grew up in the district of St. Georg and by his late teens, he had developed an interest in acting. He started having acting classes and his parents were not aware of it. He joined the  German Army in World War I in 1915.

He got hurt in the process and after his release from the Hospital in Wiesbaden, he took to comedies, antics and operettas at the local Residenztheater. When the war ended, Hans Albers found his way to Berlin where he served as a comedic actor in various Weimar-Era Berlin theatres.

He had his breakthrough when he played the role of a waiter in the play Verbrecher (Criminals). Hans Albers’ relationship with Jewish actress Hansi Burg lasted till he died in 1960.
Some of his songs include Das ist die Liebe der Matrosen (from picture Bomben auf Monte Carlo), Kind, du brauchst nicht weinen (from picture Der Draufgänger), Flieger, grüß’ mit mir die Sonne (from picture F. P. 1 antwortet nicht), Hoppla, jetzt komm’ ich (from picture Der Sieger), Komm’ auf die Schaukel, Luise (from stage play Liliom), Komm und spiel mit mir (from picture Quick), “Mein Gorilla hat ‘ne Villa im Zoo” (from picture Today Is the Day), “In meinem Herzen Schatz, da ist für viele Platz” (from picture Savoy-Hotel 217) and “Jawohl, meine Herrn” [with Heinz Rühmann] (from picture Der Mann, der Sherlock Holmes war).

Others are “Good bye, Jonny” (from picture Wasser für Canitoga), La Paloma” (from picture Große Freiheit Nr. 7), “Auf der Reeperbahn nachts um halb eins” (from picture Große Freiheit Nr. 7), Kleine weiße Möwe” (from picture Käpt’n Bay-Bay) and Nimm mich mit, Kapitän, auf die Reise” (from picture Käpt’n Bay-Bay).

Apart from the songs, Hans Albers has so many films to his credit. He collapsed during a theater performance with massive internal bleeding. Three months later, specifically on July 24, 1960, he died at a sanatorium in Kempfenhausen near Lake Starnberg. He was 68 years old at the time of his death. Hans Albers was cremated and later buried at the Ohlsdorf Cemetery in Hamburg, the city of his birth.
