Giorgio Ferrara was an Italian director and artistic director.Giorgio Ferrara was born on January 19, 1947 and he was born to Maurizio and Marcella De Francesco .
He had an elder brother called Giuliano. Between 1958 and 1961, he was living in Moscow as his father was a correspondent for l’Unità in Moscow. The career of Giorgio Ferrara started off as a theater director and he was an assistant to Luca Ronconi.
Subsequently, Giorgio Ferrara started directing the works of authors such as Carlo Bernardi, Luigi Pirandello, August Strindberg, Francesca Sanvitale, Carlo Goldoni, Enzo Siciliano, Franca Valeri, Natalia Ginzburg, Cesare Musatti and Corrado Augias.
He also worked with actors such as Valeria Moriconi, Andrea Giordana, Franco Citti, Gato Barbieri, Paolo Bonacelli, Ilaria Occhini and Ugo Pagliai.
So far as cinema is concerned, it must be noted that Giorgio Ferrara directed A Simple Heart (special prize at the David di Donatello 1977 and Nastro d’argento for best debut director ) and Tosca and two others.
He also worked with the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan as director of operas and between 2003 and 2007, he worked with the Italian Cultural Institute in Parisas director.
Giorgio Ferrara was also the director of the Festival dei Due Mondi from 2007 to 2020. He died on May 18, 2023, in Rome at the age of 76.
