Gherardo Colombo was born on June 23, 1946, and he is an Italian former magistrate and judge specialized in political corruption cases. It must also be noted that Gherardo Colombo was a member of the Court of Cassation between 2005 and 2007.

He was born in Briosco and attended Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. He successfully graduated from the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan later in 1971.

The career of Gherardo Colombo as a magistrate in Milan spanned 33 years and he worked on several cases. Some of the notable cases he worked on include the 1979 murder of advocate Giorgio Ambrosoli, the Propaganda Due Freemason lodge, and off the books money at the Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale.

Gherardo Colombo also teamed up with Giuliano Turone to investigate the finances of Michele Sindona. It must also be noted that he was involved in the Mani pulite political corruption investigation in Italy.

He served as one of the judges who decided on the case. Gherardo Colombo was noted to have resigned from the judiciary in 2007. He was then 61 years old.

His resignation was seen as quick especially as he could have continued sitting as a judge for another fourteen years. His decision to resign was based on his belief that the fight against corruption should not be confined solely to the legal arena. He was the author of the book titled On rules, Amsterdam University Press, 2017.
