Contessa di Castiglione Cause of Death: Full Details

Virginia Elisabetta Luisa Carlotta Antonietta Teresa Maria Oldoini became the  Countess of Castiglione after getting married to Verasis Asinari.  Virginia Oldoini was an Italian noblewoman and secret agent born in Paris on March 23, 1837.

She was considered one of the most beautiful and fascinating women of her era and her espionage and diplomatic activity developed with respect to the Congress of Paris of 1856, the Second War of Independence and the peace negotiations of the Franco-Prussian War. 

The father of Virginia Oldoini was Marquis Filippo Oldoini Rapallini, the first deputy to be elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1848.

The mother of Virginia Oldoini was Isabella Lamporecchi, and she was the daughter of the well-known jurist Ranieri Lamporecchi.

She had a salon and was frequently patronized by aristocrats and intellectuals, including Giacomo Antonelli.Virginia Oldoini was born in Florence and was baptized in the Oratory of San Giovanni.

At the time of her birth, her father was just twenty years old. She had an interest in learning languages and was able to learn French, English and German.

She was a friend to  Prince Poniatowski, as well as a friend and protégé of Matilda Bonaparte, daughter of Jerome Bonaparte. She met  Alexander Colonna Walewski, the natural son of Napoleon Bonaparte and future French Foreign Minister.

Even though Virginia Oldoini did not love Count of Castiglione Francesco Verasis, she agreed to marry him.

They got married on January 9, 1854, at a time when Virginia Oldoini was not even 17 years old. Virginia Oldoini did not attend the wedding. Virginia Oldoini gave birth to her first and only child, Giorgio on March 9, 1855.

Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione experienced some thefts in the places where she kept her letters. The letters were burned on the spot.

She got shocked after realizing that important historical documents had been destroyed and the file with the investigation into the vandalism was never found again years later.

Unfortunately, these affected her. She died in her Paris apartment on November 28, 1899. The cause of her death was cerebral apoplexy. She was 63 years old at the time of her death.
