The celebrated German actors Rudolf Andersch and Ida Perry were the parents of Charlotte Anders. Given her upbringing, Ander was certain to be pulled into the performing industry.
Her cinematic career began in 1920 with the release of Die letzte Stunde, after completing her studies at the esteemed Berliner Staatstheater.
Ander became well-known during the silent era and made a smooth transition to sound pictures. She got the chance to collaborate with well-known actors like Hans Albers, Marlene Dietrich, and Emil Jannings.
In the 1933 film, Ein Lied geht um die Welt, Ander starred as Nina, costarring with Joseph Schmidt, a well-known singer, and her mother, Ida Perry.
This was her most notable part to date. But once the Nazis gained power in Germany, Anderโwho wasn’t pure-bloodedโhad trouble obtaining employment. For a while, she found comfort in England, but she quickly discovered that finding parts there was just as difficult.
Even if the circumstances were difficult, Ander went back to Germany. Despite having trouble landing regular movie roles, she was able to maintain a theatrical career until 1950. She reappeared in films in The Benthin Family and starred in Das tanzende Herz, her last movie in 1953.
