German voice actor, radio dramatist, and actress Käte Alving was born in Hamburg on November 26, 1896. Ella Groeger in Hamburg and Ilka Grüning in Berlin taught her acting.
She made her stage debut at the Niederdeutsche Bühne Hamburg before moving on to the Ohnsorg Theater, where she made several guest appearances around the German North.
Alving started speaking at the Hamburg-founded Nordische Rundfunk AG in 1924. Her primary roles were in radio plays in Low German. She collaborated with Hans Langmaack as an acting instructor, training budding talents like Heidi Kabel.
Alving did theatre work in addition to appearing in radio, television, and film productions. She acted in several DEFA movies, such as “…and if only one were…” (1948), Falk Harnack’s “The Hatchet of Wandsbek” (1951), and “The Seas Are Calling” (1951).
Alving made appearances in Berlin’s Theater am Kurfürstendamm, Deutsches Theater, Hebbeltheater, and Volksbühne during her career. She was in high demand as an actor for both stage and movie roles due to her talent and adaptability.
On December 8, 1974, Käte Alving passed away in West Berlin.
