- In the year 1992, mobitel originated the first cellular phone in Ghana.

2. Vodafone Ghana
Formerly known as Ghana Telecom, Vodafone Ghana was founded in 1974 and has its headquarters in Accra and it runs under Vodacom Group. They are the second leaders in Ghana’s wireless telecommunication services Industry.
The Government of Ghana on July 3, 2008, under the leadership of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, sold 70% of Ghana Telecom at an expense of US$900 million. Ghana Telecom and its subordinate phone dealer, oneTouch on April 15, 2009, rebranded its name to Vodafone. Vodafone, on December 2019, disclosed to the general public that, they’ve acquired all the Vodacom Group’s stake in Vodacom Business Ghana.

3. AirtelTigo Ghana
The first telecommunication company to operate in Ghana was Millicom Ghana Limited with the brand name, mobitel. However, it was later rebranded to Tigo.
In 2017, based on the approval of the National Communications Authority, Airtel and Tigo merged. Currently, AirtelTigo Ghana have about 10 million subscribers in Ghana now. Mike Adenuga founded glo on 29th August, 2003. Glo is a Nigerian based telecommunication company with its headquarters in Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria.
