Wolfgang Zilzer’s father was a German-Jewish emigrant called Max Zilzer. Max worked at a local theater. It must be noted that Wolfgang Zilzer’s mother died soon after his death.

The career of Wolfgang Zilzer started off when he started making appearances on stage in child roles. His first movie appearance came up when he was 14 years old. He relocated to the United States of America in 1930 but due to the fact that he did not experience success as an actor, he found his way to Germany.

Wolfgang Zilzer worked with Ernst Lubitsch in several anti-Nazi movies and he used pseudonyms. This was to protect his father who was still in Berlin, Germany. Wolfgang Zilzer got married to Lotte Palfi. She was a German-Jewish actress who made an appearance in Casablanca(1942) just like Wolfgang Zilzer.

When Wolfgang Zilzer contracted Parkinson’s disease at the end of the 1980s, their marriage ended in a divorce as Lotti Palfi refused to relocate to Germany with Wolfgang Zilzer.
Wolfgang Zilzer died on June 26, 1991, in Berlin. He was laid to rest at the Waldfriedhof Zehlendorf.
