Katarina Witt is a legendary German figure skater born on December 3, 1965, in Falkensee, East Germany. She is widely considered one of the greatest female figure skaters of all time due to the impressive career she had.

Witt won several awards and competitions in her illustrious career that began in the late 1970s and came to an end in 1994. She is a World Figure Skating Hall of Famer, inducted a year after she retired as a professional.

Witt’s journey as a figure skater began in 1977 at the SC-Karl Marx-Stadt club where she received intensive training and coaching from Jutta Müller. She finally got the opportunity to demonstrate her talent in a major international tournament in 1979 when she represented Germany at the 1979 European Championships.

Although she ended up with a 14th-place finish, she went home with a valuable experience that helped her in her subsequent competitions. Three years after that 14th-place finish, Witt went on an impressive run of wins that has only been achieved by Sonja Henie.

Witt won the European Championships for six consecutive years starting from 1983 to 1988. In addition to that, she is also a four-time World Champion and won silver twice (1982 and 1986).

She is also a two-time Olympic games champion, winning at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics and at the 1988 Calgary Olympics which made her one of only two female figure skaters to ever defend their ladies singles title at the Olympics.

She started appearing on TV and in film in 1988 when she started a show with fellow Olympic champion Brian Boitano called “Witt and Boitano Skating” which was a success. With time, she decided to try her hands at acting as well.

She made her film debut in 1989 in the film “Carmen on Ice” which earned her an Emmy award in 1990. Witt continued to make appearances in films and on TV including a strong role in the film “Die Eisprinzessin- The Ice Princess”.
