Igor Levit was born on March 10, 1987, and he can be described as a Russian-German pianist. Igor Levit is said to focus his attention on the works of Bach, Beethoven and Liszt. He is known to be a professor at the Musikhochschule Hanover and he lives in Berlin.
He was born in Gorky and he started learning to play the piano when he was just three years old. Igor Levit’s mother, Elena Levit was a piano teacher so she taught him. Elena was also a repetiteur and grand disciple of Heinrich Neuhaus. It must be noted that the family of Igor Levit in 1995 moved to Hannover.
Between 1999 and 2000, he had some sort of education at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in the company of Hans Leygraf. It must also be emphasized that between 2000 and 2010, he studied at the Hochschuke fur Muzik, Theater und Medien Hannover with the likes of Karl-Heinz Kammerling, Matti Raekalilio and Bernd Goetzke.
Over the years, Igor Levit has made appearances in a lot of major concert halls as well as music festivals across the world. Throughout his career, he has also won a lot of prizes some 9f which include the second prize at the International Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athens(2004). He also won the first prize at the 9th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition (2004), and second prize at the Piano Competition Kissinger Klavierolymp(2004), among other awards.
Igor Levit was featured in a 45-minute documentary that talks about his love for the music of Franz Liszt. The document was aired on 3sat. He was also a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist between 2011 and 2013. He was also appointed a Professor at the Hochschule fur Muzik, Theater und Medien Hannover beginning in the winter semester of 2019/2020.
Some of the awards to the credit of Igor Levit include the 2009 Luitpold Prize for Young Artists at the Festival Kissinger Sommer in Bad Kissingen,
2017 Beethoven Ring,2018 Gilmore Artist Award and Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
He worked on some concerts during the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020, which were streamed. He is said to have no wife or children. He stands at 5 feet 5 inches even though it’s believed that he could be 5 feet 10 inches tall based on some of his pictures.
