Christian Thieleman was born on April 1, 1959, and can be described as a German conductor. He is noted to be the chief conductor of the Saxon Staatskapelle Dresden since 2012 and will be in that position till July 2024. It must be noted that Christian Thielemann served as the artistic director of the Salzburg Easter Festival between 2013 and 2022 and he was also the music director of the Bayreuth Festival from 2015 to 2020.
Christian Theileman also makes an appearance as a guest with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic. Interestingly, in 2020, Christian Thieleman was appointed Honorary Professor at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden.
He would also be appointed general music director of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2024. He would conduct the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert in 2024 after he had done the same in 2019.
Christian Thielemann was the only child of Hans and Sybille Theilemann. It must be noted that he grew up in Berlin-Schlachtensee and his father worked for a West German steel company. His mother was a pharmacist.
Christian Thielemann’s career started off at age 19 and he was an accompanist at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He also served as an assistant to Herbert von Karajan in Berlin. He became the first conductor at the Dusseldorf Rhine Opera in 1985 and three years later, he moved to the Nuremberg State Theater as general music director.
Christian Thielemann was invited to be part of Deutsche Oper Berlin in 1997 but he resigned in 2004. Christian Thielemann became the General Music Director of the Munich Philharmonic in September 2004. He also became the Chief Conductor of the Sachsische Staatskapelle Dresden in 2012.
It must be noted that over the years, Christian Thielemann has worked in different countries and in different positions.
Christian Thielemann’s Family; Mother And Father
The father of Christian Thielemann is Hans Thielemann and his mother was Sybille Thielemann. Hans worked with a West German steel company and Sybille was a pharmacist.
Some of the awards of Christian Thielemann include 2003: Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesverdienstkreuz), 2011: Honorary doctorate from Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt, Weimar, 2011: Honorary membership (HonRAM) in the Royal Academy of Music, London, 2012: Honorary doctorate from the KU Leuven, Belgium and 2015: Richard Wagner Award (Richard-Wagner-Preis).
