Her parents were Alfred Peiser and Rose Lissman and she had two sisters. Alfred Peiser was a German Jewish physician and Rose Lissman Austrian Jewish actress in Posen, Prussia, Germany.

She had her own television show in 1951. Lilli Palmer and Rex Harrison appeared together in some productions.

Some of these productions were the 1951 British melodrama The Long Dark Hall and The FourPoster (1952). Lilli Palmer won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress in 1953 for Picture Four.

Carey Harrison was a member of the London Recruits; recruited by the African National Congress (ANC) in the 1960s and 1970s to smuggle ANC and SACP literature into South Africa after the ANC had been decimated by the Rivonia trials which ran from October 9, 1963, to June 12, 1964. Noel Harrison is his half-brother.

The first wife of Carey Harrison was Mary Chamberlain but he now lives with the artist Claire Lamb. He has four children; Rosie (Laurence), Chiara, Faith, and Sam, and one stepdaughter, Zoe Lambe. Carey Harrison is also a Professor of English at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York.
