Tambrea comes from a musically inclined family. His father, an orchestral musician, travelled to France in 1986 for a concert tour during the rule of the dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu in Romania.
A year later, as part of the family reunion, his mother relocated to Germany to live with his father Tambrea and his sister. Before deciding to settle in Hagen, where Tambrea was raised, they first lived in Marl.
His parents, who play in the Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dortmund Philharmonic, respectively, are also active musicians. Alina Armonas-Tambrea, his sister, plays the violin and instructs at the Darmstadt Academy of Music.
Tambrea started taking violin lessons when she was four years old. Later, he took conducting, piano, and viola lessons. He made his stage debut at the age of six as a soloist in the Theatre Hagen children’s choir.
He competed as a violinist in Jugend Musiziert from 1994 and 2002, taking first place six times, and eventually joining the State Youth Orchestra of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Tambrea made the decision to pursue acting instead of music when she was 18 years old. Later, he was accepted into the Berlin-based Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he studied acting from 2006 to 2010.

This was the first of several theatrical appearances, which included parts in Boris Jacoby’s “Philotas” (2010), Robert Wilson’s “Lulu” (2011), and Katharina Thalbach’s “What You Want” (2012).
Tambrea admitted that he was cast in parts that were difficult for him to do at the time but helped him develop as an actor.
Tambrea ventured into cinema and television productions in addition to his theatre career. He made his film debut in Christian Schwochow’s 2011 film “Die Insichtbare” and participated in radio dramas.
But when he was chosen to play Ludwig II, the Bavarian “fairy tale king,” in a 2012 movie, that is when he made it big.
He received praise for this performance from critics and was nominated for the German Film Prize, the Bavarian Film Prize, the New Faces Award, and the Best Actor Award at the First Historic Film Festival in Waterloo.
Tambrea has since made several appearances in films and television programmes, including as Dieter Wedel’s film clips for the Worms Nibelungen Festival (2014), Andrina Mranikar’s “Ma Folie” (2015), and Philipp Kadelbach’s “Naked Among Wolves” (2015).
Additionally, he appeared in the television series “Ku’damm” (2016-2018-2021) and “Babylon Berlin” (2020) and as the antagonist Randolf in the ARD historical drama “The Secret of the Midwife” (2016).
