The National Science And Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is a yearly mathematics and science (physics, chemistry and biology) content-based national level quiz competition for senior high schools (SHS) in Ghana. Since 1993, NSMQ has been produced by Primetime Limited.
In 2017, the NSMQ competition was adjudged the best TV Programme of the Year during the CIMG awards. The NSMQ competition has earned several other awards as well.
When Was The NSMQ Founded?
The National Science And Maths Quiz was founded in 1993 by Kwaku Mensa-Bonsu (managing director of Primetime during that time)
Who Presents The NSMQ?
The maiden edition of the NSMQ competition was presented by the late Professor Marian Ewurama Addy (Biochemistry, University of Ghana – Legon) and she was succeeded by Dr. Adomako (from 2001 to 2005). After Dr. Adomako, Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann took over as the quiz mistress of the NSMQ.
Dr. Elsie Effah Kaufmann (founding Head of the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Ghana, Legon) is the current quiz mistress of the NSMQ.
What Is The Objective Of NSMQ?
The prime goal of the National Science & Maths Quiz is to encourage (promote) the study of science and mathematics, aid students to acquire quick thinking skills and, a probing and scientific mind about the everyday world around them, as well as breeding healthy academic rivalry among senior high schools.
Who Won The Maiden Edition Of The NSMQ?
The first or maiden edition of the National Science And Maths Quiz competition was won by Prempeh College.
Which School Is The Most Successful In The NMSQ Competition?
In the National Science And Maths Quiz competition, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, (PRESEC-Legon) is the most successful school to have ever participated in this competition.
Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, (PRESEC-Legon) has been to the finals of the NSMQ competition for a record of ten (10) times and winning the competition for six (6) times.
How Many Rounds Are There In The NSMQ?
There are a total five (5) rounds.
Round one (1) is the round of basic questions from biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Round two (2) is known as the speed race. Round three (3) is the problem of the day. Round four (4) is a true or false section. Round five (5) is the riddles section.
