Matthias Lamp was an Italian painter who was born on August 31, 1697. He was well-known as the father of the famous Giovanni Battista Lampi. It must be noted that Matthias Lamp was born in Obergsies near Monguelfo but with time, he relocated to Romeno in 1723.

One fascinating thing about Matthias Lamp was the fact that he fathered a lot of children. He had about fourteen children after getting married to Chiara Margherita Lorenzoni. They got married on February 5, 1730, but it was only three out of their fourteen children that reached adulthood.

Two of the three children, Giovanni Battista and Lorenzo, both became painters. It must be noted that in the career of Matthias Lamp as a painter, he created the stations of the Cross for local churches. He also produced alter pieces, wall frescoes, frames, banners and other materials.
