Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner was a German lawyer and politician who was born on January 23, 1931, in Munich. She however died on May 29, 2008. Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner was a member of the Christian Social Union.

She had her secondary school education in Grafelfing and then moved to the University of Munich. While at the University of Munich, Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner studied Law.

She received her doctorate in 1975. For a brief period, Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner served as a public prosecutor and ministerial councillor in Munich. She is said to have joined the Christian Social Union in 1968 and then became the first woman to become deputy party leader.

It must be noted that between 1959 and 1965, Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner served as a member of the federal executive board of the Young Union of Germany. She also served as a member of the Bavarian State Parliament from 1970 to 1994.

She was the State Secretary in the Bavarian Ministry of Culture and the first woman to be part of the Bavarian Cabinet.
Between 1986 and 1993, Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner was the Bavarian Minister of Justice and between 1988 and 1993, she served in the capacity of Deputy Prime Minister.

Mathilde Berghofer-Weichner died due to cancer and was buried in Stockdorf.
