Gunther Beckstein is a German politician and lobbyist who was born on November 23, 1943. Between 1974 and 2013, Gunther Beckstein served as a member of the Bavarian State parliament.
He was also the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior between 1993 and 2007. Gunther Beckstein was the Bavarian Prime Minister from 2007 to 2008 and he is said to be the first Protestant Prime Minister of the Free State of Bavaria and that was after the Second World War.
Gunther Beckstein graduated from the Willstatter-Gymnasium in Nuremberg in 1962. Later on, he attended the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremburg as well as the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich where he studied Law. He set up a law firm in 1971 and later in 1975, he earned his doctorate in Law.
The political career of Gunther Beckstein started off when he became the district chairman of the Junge Union Nuremberg Furth. He was also the deputy chairman of the CSU district association Nuremberg-Furth-Schwabacch.
He was also the deputy chairman of the CSU Parliamentary group from July to October 1988 and on October 19, 1988, Gunther Beckstein became the State Secretary of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior. Gunther Beckstein is known to be deaf in one ear.
