Jurgen von Alten was a German screenwriter, actor and film director. He was born on January 12, 1903, and lived until February 28, 1994. He was born to the landowner and lieutenant general Benedix Wilhelm Karl von Alten (1852–1937), lord of Dunau, and Maria Schmidt von Schwind (1870–1954).

It must be noted that he dropped out of school and decided to focus on acting lessons. Beginning from 1923, he underwent traineeship at the Hannover Municipal Theater. Jurgen von Alten had his debut in 1931 when he featured in Gustav Ucicky’s Prussian film titled Yorck.

He was a member of the Nazi company cell organization and later in 1933, he became director of the Dresden Comedy House. Between 1935 and 1936, he was also director of the Berlin Schiller Theater. His career as a film director began in 1936. During the lifetime of Jurgen von Alten, he was said to have directed about 70 short and feature films.
