Who Was Johnny Cash? 

Johnny Cash was an American country music singer and songwriter born on February 26, 1932, in Kingsland, Arkansas, to Ray Cash and Carrie Cloveree. He was raised with his six siblings by his parents in Dyess, Arkansas.

He started doing music in his childhood, initially as a gospel singer. Cash began to write his songs by the time he was 12 and was given guitar lessons by his mother.

His debut album was made up of traditional gospel songs titled “My Mother’s Hymn Book”. Shortly after, he joined the Air Force on July 7, 1950, and later became Morse code at the 12th Radio Squadron Mobile at Landsberg, West Germany.

He worked in the Air Force until 1954 when he was discharged honourably as a staff sergeant. He then married his first wife, Vivian Liberto just a month after he was discharged from the Air Force.

Throughout his career, Cash released over thirty albums and is believed to have written over a thousand songs. He also received several prestigious awards whiles he was alive and even continues to be honoured years after he died.

He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980, Memphis Music Hall of Fame (2013), GMA’s Gospel Music Hall of Fame (2010), Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1992), etc.
