Melanie Amann is a German journalist and she was born on May 18, 1978, in Bonn. She is a member of the editorial board of the news magazine Der Spiegel. Her parents are Bernhard Amann and Eva Amann-Brockhaus.
Bernhard Amann lived between 1945 and 2017 and was a judge. Eva Amann-Brockhaus was a senior teacher. Melanie Amann passed her Abitur at the Anno-Gymnasium in July 1997.
Between 1997 and 2003, she studied law at the Universities of Trier, Aix-Marseille III and at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
Melanie Amann made a switch to Journalism in 2003 after her first state examination in law. To learn journalism, she attended the German School of Journalism in Munich.
Melanie Amann also read a postgraduate course in communication sciences at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich.
She has been the editor of the Financial Times Germany since 2005 and in 2006, she worked at the economics department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and she was in charge of legal issues and the labor law section of the weekly supplement “Beruf und Chance”.
She started working for Frankfurter Allgemeine Sunday newspaper in 2009.
Melanie Amann has been working with the news magazine Der Spiegel, since 2013 in her capacity as editor.
Later in June 2023, she had to give up her position as head of the capital city editorial office so she could concentrate on the transformation of the Hamburg magazine.
Melanie Amann writes for the CDU and the Alternative for Germany and she is a regular guest on talk shows such as Phoenix Round, Markus Lanz, Anne Will and Presseclub.
