Hans Fassnacht was born on November 28, 1950, and he can be described as a retired German swimmer. It must be noted that he participated in the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics and he competed in freestyle and butterfly events.
Hans Fassnacht won the silver medal in the 4×200 meter freestyle in 1972. In the same year, he also set an Olympic record by winning the 1500 meter in the semi-final. He however did not compete in the final.
While active with respect to swimming, Hans Fassnacht was said to have set so many records. He was able to set 41 German, 21 European as well as 2 world records. He attended Long Beach State University and trained under coach Don Gambril. While at the University, he broke the world record in the 400-meter freestyle and he also broke other records.
Hans Fassnacht was honored as West German Sports Personality of the Year in 1969, 1970 and in 1971. He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1992.
