Gustav Fröhlich can be described as a German actor and film director. He was born on March 21, 1902, and he had his breakthrough after he had played a role in Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis. Gustav Fröhlich was raised by his foster parents and before taking up acting as a career, he served as an editor of a provincial newspaper.
He also authored some popular novels. His stage career is said started in the early 1920s when he performed at minor theatres in Germany. He had the chance to play some roles in Hollywood in German versions of American films in 1930 and also made appearances in some musicals and comedies.
Gustav Fröhlich was married to Hungarian opera star and actress Gitta Alpár between 1931 and 1935. They had a child called Julika. Later on, he got engaged to actress Lida Baarova but later realized that Lida Baarova was involved with the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels.
It must be noted that in 1941, Gustav Fröhlich worked in the Wehrmacht Landschützen-Regiment. He married Maria Hajek till she died in 1987. He was given the German Film Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1973. Gustav Fröhlich died in 1987 due to some complicatons after surgery .
