Günter Pfitzmann Cause of Death: Full Details

Günter Pfitzmann was born on April 8 , 1924, in Berlin and he was a German actor, voice actor and cabaret artist. The parents of  Günter Pfitzmann were Erich and Charlotte Pfitzmann. He had a brother called Karl-Heinz Pfitzmann.

Concerning education,  Günter Pfitzmann passed his high school diploma in 1942 and got drafted into the Wehrmacht. However, due to an injury to his leg, he could not partake in sports studies.

He then turned his attention to acting under the tutelage of Fritz Kirchhoff at the “Der Kreis” acting school in Berlin-Charlottenburg.

Between 1945 and 1947 when  Günter Pfitzmann was still under training, he landed roles in nine plays by the Landestheater Mark Brandenburg. The theater career of  Günter Pfitzmann started in Berlin in 1952 at “Komödie” and ended in 1985.

He played in the Theater am Kurfürstendamm, the Freie Volksbühne, the Hebbel Theater and the Berliner Theater.Günter Pfitzmann was one of the founding members of the Berlin cabaret group “ The Porcupines. He performed with “ The Porcupines from 1949 till 1957 and again in 1965 with respect to the opening program of the new cabaret theater in Berlin’s Europa Center.

He appeared in more than 50 films and television series and some of the films he featured in include The Captain and His Hero (1955), Dr. Crippen Lives (1958), Dogs, Do You Want to Live Forever (1958), The Zinker (1963) and especially The Bridge (1959).

Some of the television series he featured in include On the Green Beach of the Spree (1960),  Allow me, my name is Cox (1961), The Criminal Museum (1968), The Incorrigibles, PS – Stories about the Car (1975), in the Tatort episode Feuerzauber (1977), in the series A Man Wants to Go Up (1978), Klinik unter Palmen(1996), Three Ladies from the Grill (1977–1985), as well as  Der Havelkaiser (1994–2000).

Günter Pfitzmann Cause of Death

Günter Pfitzmann was reported dead on May 30, 2003. He was 79 years old when he died of a heart attack.

It was reported that he was terminally ill with lung cancer two years before his death, but knew nothing about this diagnosis.

Günter Pfitzmann was buried in section XVI-A W28 of the Zehlendorf forest cemetery in Berlin-Nikolassee. His funeral service took place in the Berlin Memorial Church. The  Senate of Berlin decided to designate Pfitzmann’s grave as a grave of honor on March 24, 2020.

Personal life

Günter Pfitzmann was initially married to the actress Karin Hübner but in 1964, he got married to Lilo Giebken, and they had two sons.

He lived at Reifträgerweg 30 in Berlin-Nikolassee before he died and a square in Nikolassee was named after him in April 2017. Günter Pfitzmann was a committed member of the German Employees’ Union.
