Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa. For a short while, he schooled at the University of Pretoria but later left for Canada when he was just 18 years old. Two years later, he was a student at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario but had a transfer to the University of Pennsylvania.
Upon completion and graduation, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Physics. In 1995, he relocated to California to school at Standford University. However, just after two days he dropped out and teamed up with Kimbal, his brother to develop the online city guide software company called Zip2.
In 1999, Compaq acquired Zip2 for $307 million. Elon Musk used $12 million of the amount to set up X.com, a direct bank. X.com and Confinity came together to form PayPal in 2000.
After selling PayPal in 2002 for $1.5 billion, he set up SpaceX using $100 million of the money. He became an investor in Tesla Motors in 2004 and became the CEO in 2008. He founded SolarCity in 2006, co-founded OpenAi in 2015, and co-founded Neuralink and Boring Company.
He purchased Twitter in 2022 for $44 billion and merged it into XCorp. He also founded xAi in March 2023.

As of 2012, the Forbes Billionaires List indicated that his net worth was $2 billion.He was said to have a net worth of $27 billion at the beginning of 2020 but at the end of the year, it had increased by $150 billion due to the 20% stake and ownership of Tesla.
He bypassed Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg and Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates to become the second richest man in the world. His net worth was pegged at $185 billion as of January 2021 and went ahead of the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos to become the world’s richest person.
Even though Jeff Bezoz reclaimed that feat, when the stock of Tesla surged, on September 27, 2021, Elon Musk was again tagged by Forbes as the richest person with a net worth of over $200 billion.
As of November 2021, he had over $300 billion. He was reported to have lost $200 billion of his net worth due to some issues with Tesla.

Relationships and Children
Elon Musk has 10 children. His first wife was Canadian author, Justine Wilson and they met while at Queen’s University. They married in 2000 but in 2002, their first child died as a result of sudden infant death syndrome at the age of 10 weeks.
They subsequently used IVF to get more children.
They had twins in 2004 and triplets in 2006. They however divorced in 2008..
In 2017, Elon Musk dated Amber Heard. Elon Musk and Amber Heard denied that they had a relationship as Amber Heard was still married to Depp. Elon Musk dated Canadian musician, Grimes in 2018 and they had a son in May 2020.
They had a second son in December 2021 called Exa Dark Musk via surrogacy.
