Daliah Lavi, born Daliah Lewinbuk or Levenbuch, was an Israeli actress, singer, and model.
In today’s article, we will be talking about her life as well as her cause of death and how it all happened.
Who Is Daliah Lavi?
Ruth and Reuben Lewinbuk gave birth to Daliah Lavi on October 12, 1942, in Shavei Tzion, British Mandate of Palestine (now Israel).
Lavi met actor Kirk Douglas, who was in Israel filming The Juggler when he was 10 years old. She displayed an interest in becoming a dancer, and with Douglas’ assistance, she persuaded her parents to send her to Stockholm, Sweden, to learn ballet.
Due to the climate, she eventually gave up dancing and returned to Israel to pursue a modelling career. The Associated Press widely disseminated an iconic cheesecake photo of Lavi fixing her bikini after it broke at a Rio de Janeiro swimming pool in 1959, which earned international prominence.
Lavi’s career took off in 1960, when she began acting in a number of European and American productions.
She was a multilingual actress who appeared in films in German, French, Italian, Spanish, and English. In her debut American picture, Two Weeks in Another Town, directed by Vincente Minnelli, she reconnected with Kirk Douglas.
Lavi gave what she considered her best performance in Brunello Rondi’s 1963 film Il Demonio, which was about a witch hunt.
She also acted in Mario Bava’s gothic masterpiece La Frusta e il corpo and co-starred with Dean Martin in The Silencers, the first Matt Helm picture, in 1966.
Ten Little Indians (1965), a cinematic adaptation of Agatha Christie’s murder mystery in which she played European comedian Ilona Bergen, is also on Lavi’s filmography. She also played “The Detainer/007” in Casino Royale (1967).
Lavi began singing after being discovered by record producer Jimmy Bowien, in addition to her acting profession. In Germany, she found fame as a schlager singer with hits such as “Oh, wann kommst du?,” “Willst du mit mir gehn?,” and “C’est ça, la vie (So ist das Leben).”
In August 1971, one of Lavi’s singles, “Jerusalem,” reached number 98 in Australia. She remained a popular figure in the entertainment sector throughout her career.
Lavi died on May 3, 2017, at the age of 74, in Asheville, North Carolina, USA. Her cause of death has not been revealed. She was laid to rest in Israel following a funeral service.
