One of the most recognizable individuals in contemporary fantasy literature and television is Daenerys Targaryen, a famous character from George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel and the popular television series “Game of Thrones.” She stands out as a character thanks to her compelling plot, her tenacity, and her link to her Targaryen bloodline.
Family and Lineage
One of Westeros’ Great Houses, the Targaryens are renowned for their silver hair and tendency to form close relationships with dragons. Daenerys Targaryen was born into this prestigious family. Although there is considerable debate regarding her origins, her parents were Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark.
King Aerys II Targaryen, often known as the Mad King, had an oldest son named Rhaegar. His melancholy tunes, for which he was known, further contributed to his attractiveness and talent as a musician. In contrast, Lyanna Stark, who was engaged to Robert Baratheon, was a native of the North. She was the topic of several tales and ballads because of her beauty and independent spirit.
It’s important to keep in mind, though, that the R+L=J idea is a well-known fan theory that contends Jon Snow, not Daenerys, is the offspring of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. According to the myth, Eddard Stark reared Jon after he was secretly born to shield him from Robert Baratheon’s fury. Regardless of whether the hypothesis is correct or not, it highlights the intricate web of connections that runs across the Targaryen and Stark dynasties.
The Early Years of Exile
When Robert’s Rebellion, headed by Robert Baratheon, Eddard Stark, and Jon Arryn, was successful in toppling the Mad King Aerys II, Daenerys’s life took a turbulent turn. With the destruction of King’s Landing and the deaths of many Targaryens, including Rhaegar, the rebellion came to an end.
When Daenerys was only a baby, Ser Willem Darry, a devoted Targaryen supporter, whisked her off to Essos. She and her brother Viserys spent their formative years in exile, traveling from place to city. They struggled to make ends meet while being frequently reminded of their formerly powerful family and their quest to retake the Iron Throne.
When Daenerys marries off to the ruthless Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo, her ascent to power begins. Viserys, her brother, intended to retake the Seven Kingdoms with the aid of Drogo’s army. However, Daenerys transforms from a timid and subservient young woman into a fierce and tenacious commander.
