Clemens Hach’s Biography
German diplomat Clemens Augustinus Hach was born in Algiers in 1970 and is the Federal Republic of Germany’s ambassador to Bahrain at the moment. Hach served his basic military duty in Pinneberg and Cologne after completing his Baccalauréat at the French Gymnasium in Bonn in 1988.
Subsequently, he continued his education at the University of Bonn, where he focused on constitutional law, Islamic studies, and the history of the constitution, society, and economy. In 1999, Hach earned his Magister Artium degree in Islamic studies.
Hach began his diplomatic career in the same year he enlisted in the foreign service. He worked as a political counsellor at the German embassy in Caracas, Venezuela, from 2000 to 2002 after completing attaché training.
He then took up the position of ambassador’s permanent representative at the German embassy in San José, Costa Rica.
Hach served in several important roles, including permanent representative of the ambassador at the German embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 2008 to 2010, and counsellor to the special staff for Afghanistan in the Federal Foreign Office from 2005 to 2008.
Hach served as an exchange officer at the US Department of State from 2010 to 2012 after completing these missions, where he offered advice on matters concerning Afghanistan and Pakistan. Following his time overseas, he was appointed deputy chief of the Syria and Lebanon division at the Foreign Office in Berlin.
He was also the team leader for Iraq from 2015 to 2016. Later on, he took up the position of permanent envoy at the German Embassy located in Bogotá, Colombia.
Hach has been working in the German Embassy in Manama as Germany’s ambassador to Bahrain since August 2022.
In addition to his career as a diplomat, Clemens Hach is a married father who values his family. He is blessed with six children.
