Biography
Chris Töpperwien was born on February 26, 1974, in Neuss, Germany. In 1993, Töpperwien obtained his university entrance qualification (Fachhochschulreife). He initially entered his uncle’s fast-food business, where he managed a branch in Cologne’s Kaufhof department store for a year. Following this, he pursued an apprenticeship as an office communication clerk, which he completed in 1996. In 2003, he founded an advertising agency in Cologne.
In 2011, Töpperwien emigrated to the United States. His initial business venture was the silver jewelry label “Silver Angeles.” In February 2012, he launched the first “No.1 Currywurst Truck” in Los Angeles. While Chris Töpperwien expanded his business into a licensing system, none of the trucks operated in the long run. Additionally, his Wurst-City investors ousted him from his Currywurst shop at Venice Beach.
In early 2019, Bild Direkt released a podcast titled “The ‘Currywurst Man’ File,” lasting over 20 minutes. It featured 14-15 different individuals who approached the Bild editorial team with numerous complaints, including an illegal lottery in California.
On September 21, 2018, the state of California prohibited Töpperwien from using the term “franchise” without a license.

TV, Cologne).
In 2016, he participated alongside his then-wife, Magdalèna Kalley, in the RTL reality show “Das Sommerhaus der Stars – Kampf der Promipaare,” where the couple secured the third position.
In January 2019, Töpperwien was a contestant on the thirteenth season of “Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus!” (I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!) and finished in sixth place. Following this, he participated in the jungle-themed special of “Das perfekte Promi-Dinner.”

In 2021, he participated in the Sat.1 reality TV show “Promis unter Palmen” (Celebrities Under Palms), from which he left prematurely due to an incident with Melanie Müller.
