Bruno Balz was known to have lived between October 6 , 1902 and March 14, 1988. Bruno Balz was born in Berlin and he was a German songwriter and schlager writer. Before he died , Bruno Balz  was known to have been responsible for the lyrics to over a thousand popular hits and worked with the composer Michael Jary.

It is reported that the collaborations between Bruno Balz and Michael Jary made the singer Zarah Leander popular. Quite unfortunately, Bruno Balz was arrested numerous times due to homosexuality and in 1936, he was said to have been in prison for so many months.

Based on an arrangement and agreement that his name wouldn’t be in the public domain any longer, he was released. He was involved in what was called a “lavender marriage” with a woman named Selma. He was again arrested by the Gestapo in 1941.

He was kept at the headquarters of Gestapo located in Prinz-Albrecht-Straße but was set free through the effort of Jary. Jary teamed up with Bruno Balz and thy worked on two hit songs; “Davon geht die Welt nicht unter” (“This Will Not End the World”) and “Ich weiß, es wird einmal ein Wunder gescheh’n” (“I Know Some Day a Miracle Will Happen”) just within a day of the release of Bruno Balz.

Bruno Balz had painter and actor Jürgen Draeger as his companion. He made appearances in It’s You I Have Loved (1929), Journey to Happiness (1948) and Cuba Cabana (1952).
