Andy Gibb was an English singer-songwriter and actor who was born on March 5, 1958. His siblings were Barry, Robin and Maurice and later they formed the Bee Gees. Andy Gibb became quite popular in the late 1970s after he had eight singles reaching the Top 20 of the US Hot 100.

Three out of the 8 singles became number one. These were “I Just Want to Be Your Everything” (1977), “(Love Is) Thicker Than Water” (1977), and “Shadow Dancing” (1978).

Andy Gibb co-hosted the American music television series Solid Gold in the early 1980s and it must be noted that he also performed in The Pirates of Penzance and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

He was the youngest of five children. His parents were Barbara and Hugh Gibb. His family relocated to Queensland, Australia, settling on Cribb Island just north of Brisbane.

Andy Gibb later returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967 due to the fame enjoyed by the Bee Gees. He quit school at the age of 13. He began performing at tourist clubs around Ibiza with an acoustic guitar.

He formed his first group in June 1974. The group had  Isle of Man musicians John Alderson on guitar, Stan Hughes on bass, and John Stringer on drums. The group was managed by the mother of Andy Gibb.

Andy Gibb Cause of Death

In 1988, Andy Gibb recovered from drug addiction. However, he still battled with depression due to the fact that he had broken up with Victoria Principal. He continued drinking alcohol excessively.

Two days after celebrating his 30th birthday, he had to make his way to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford due to some chest pains.

Even though the doctors were in the process of finding out the cause of his chest pains, Andy Gibb became unconscious and died. He died on March 10, 1988.

The cause of his death was believed to be myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle most likely caused by a virus. The body of Andy Gibb was returned to the United States of America and he was buried at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles.

Awards

Andy Gibb was nominated for two Grammy Awards at the 20th Annual Grammy Awards. He also got nominated for two American Music Awards.

Filmography

Some of the television productions he has been involved in include Solid Gold(1981-1982), Something’s Afoot91982), Gimme A Break (1983) and Punky Brewster (1984 and 1985). He released Andy Gibb’s Greatest Hits in 1980, Andy Gibb in 1991 as well as 20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection released on August 14, 2001. Some of his other albums are Mythology (Disc 4 – Andy) released in November 2010 and The Very Best of Andy Gibb released in April 2018.
