Who Was Andrew Jackson? 

Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States, serving from 1829 to 1837. He was also a general, lawyer and a planter born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaws Settlement.

His parents moved from Ulster, Ireland to the US in 1765 before he was born but unfortunately didn’t even get to meet his father as he died three weeks before he was born.

The challenges Jackson encountered while growing up to some extent helped to toughen him up. He became an orphan at the age of 14 but managed to fight against the odds to become a president of the United States.

But even before becoming president of the United States, Jackson was a lawyer by profession after receiving his training from attorney Spruce Macay and later John Stokes. He later served as Attorney General in 1791.

He became a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Tennessee’s at-large district from 1796 to 1797 and as Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court from 1798 to 1804. He then served as Federal Military Commissioner of Florida from March 10, 1821 to December 31, 1821.

Jackson eventually became president of the United States in 1829 after winning the elections comfortably against John Quincy Adams and was president till March 4, 1837.

Jackson married Rachel Donelson in January 1794 and they were together as husband and wife till she died  in 1828. They didn’t have any kids of their own but decided to adopt Rachel’s nephew, Andrew Jackson Jr.

How Many Siblings Did Andrew Jackson Have? 

Andrew Jackson had two brothers named Robert Jackson and Hugh Jackson. He was actually the youngest amongst his siblings.

His oldest brother, Hugh Jackson was born in 1763 whereas Robert Jackson was born a year later in 1764. Unlike Andrew, his two older brothers were born in Ulster, Ireland but later emigrated to the US where he was born.

During the Revolutionary War, the Jackson brothers served in the military against the British. His oldest brother, Hugh who served with Colonel William Richardson Davie later died from heat exhaustion.

Robert and Andrew were also later served as scouts and couriers after taking part in militia drills. They were later caught by the British and held in prison for some time subjecting them to torture and had also got infected with smallpox.

They were later released in late spring but unfortunately, Robert was unable to recover hence died two days after his release.

No. Andrew Jackson did not any sisters. His only siblings were his two older brothers named Hugh Jackson and Robert Jackson.

Andrew Jackson and his two older brothers were born to Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth Hutchinson. They were Scots-Irish colonist but later moved to the US in 1765, two years before Jackson was born.

His father died three weeks before he was born due to an accident that had to do with logging. He died at the age of 29.

His mother also died when he was 14 while she was serving as a nurse to American prisoners of war. Unfortunately, she later contracted cholera while on duty and died shortly after.
