Michele De Pascale was born on January 20, 1985, in Cesena, Italy. During his high school years, he developed an interest in politics and became a student delegate for the Izquierda list at the Righi scientific high school in Cesena. This early interest in politics paved the way for his subsequent career.
De Pascale was elected as a municipal councillor in Cervia, a town in the province of Ravenna, in 2004. This was the start of his political career.
Three years later, in 2007, he was elected to the National Assembly of the Democratic Party (PD), Italy’s largest political party. His PD membership helped him to broaden his political power and connections.
De Pascale was appointed as Cervia’s tourist councillor in 2011, demonstrating his commitment to promoting and strengthening the area’s tourism sector. His efforts in this capacity show his dedication to community service and meeting the needs of the local populace.
However, it was during the 2016 local elections when De Pascale made his political impact. He campaigned for mayor of Ravenna as a member of a center-left coalition that included the PD, the Italian Republican Party, Italia dei Valori, and numerous civic lists. On June 5, he received 46.50% of the vote in the first round of voting, establishing himself as a formidable candidate.
De Pascale won the runoff election on June 19 with 53.32% of the vote, becoming the mayor of Ravenna.
His accomplishments did not stop there. De Pascale was elected President of the Province of Ravenna just two months later, on August 3, 2016, with an overwhelming 78.82% of the vote.
On September 4, he took office, consolidating his status as a key figure in Italian politics.
De Pascale was elected President of the Union of Italian Provinces on May 13, 2018, advancing his political career. This important position follows in the footsteps of former Vicenza Province President Achille Variati. De Pascale’s election demonstrates his competence and acknowledges his leadership capabilities within Italian politics.
De Pascale campaigned for re-election in the recent municipal elections on October 3-4, 2021, with the support of the whole centre-left alliance as well as the 5 Star Movement.
