Chloe Bertini’s Biography
Chloe Bertini is a prominent figure in the Last Generation movement, a civil disobedience campaign aimed at ending subsidies for fossil fuels.
She graduated from King’s College London, where she studied neurology, and she was also accepted into the famed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York.
Chloe rose to prominence in early March after her tale was published on the YouTube channel “Michele Santoro Presents.”
In the film, she discussed her choice to engage in acts of civil disobedience, such as sitting on the Raccordo Anulare or glueing herself to works of art in museums, in order to raise attention to the critical need for climate change action. Her demonstrative movements drew a lot of attention online.
Chloe emphasised her aim in the film: for people to become more aware of the seriousness of the climate situation and the necessity for rapid action. She warned that if we do not solve the problem immediately, we will bear the consequences. Italy was singled out as a high-risk country, emphasising the gravity of the situation.
One prominent act of protest in which Chloe took part was a traffic blockade on the Great Ring Road in June 2022. This action included lying down on the road, blocking traffic, and displaying posters to raise awareness about the climate catastrophe.
However, motorists upset by the inconvenience have reacted angrily to this type of protest. Chloe herself was in danger of being hit by a car that would not stop.
Chloe’s dedication to the Last Generation cause led to her imprisonment, along with two other activists, in April 2022 for causing damage to the ENI Energy store headquarters in Rome. They were accused of causing damage, engaging in private violence, and resisting a public officer.
These activities were motivated by the notion that firms like ENI are significantly contributing to the worsening climate problem by supporting drilling and the extraction of fossil fuels.
In a recent interview on the show “A Clean Sweep,” Chloe drew even more attention by criticising the Italian tax officials.
She said that she had received a 1,400 euro fine and adamantly refused to pay it. She explained her viewpoint by mentioning her participation in different acts of civil disobedience, penalties, and debts.
Despite her parents’ ability to pay, Chloe’s unwillingness to pay demonstrates her devotion to her principles and willingness to confront existing processes.
