Uwe Wesel was a German legal scholar and legal historian. He was born on February 2, 1933, in Hamburg and he is known to have lectured at the Free University of Berlin. The father of Uwe Wesel was a machine fitter and former sailor and his mother was a paediatric nurse.
As a dedicated National Socialist, the father of Uwe Wesel he left the family after World War II had ended. Subsequently, in the first post-war years, Uwe Wesel helped his family by transacting on the black market and as a result of that, he was sacked from the Alstertal High School in 1947.
Later in 1949, Uwe Wesel returned to St. Georg High School. He successfully completed and graduated from high school in 1953.
Even though Uwe Wesel had an interest in mathematics and natural sciences, he classical philology with Bruno Snell at the University of Hamburg. From 1961 to 1968 and later became an assistant.
He was at the Free University of Berlin as a private lecturer but with time he was appointed full professor of Roman Law, civil procedure law as well as civil law.
He was appointed on March 21, 1969. He was also involved in discussions about university reforms and the unrest of the student revolt. Uwe Wesel was once a member of the Liberal Student Union of Germany, the student organization of the SPD.At age 36, Uwe Wesel was elected the first Vice President of the Free University.
Even though he had been elected Vice President, Uwe Wesel still continued with his responsibility as a teacher. He resigned at the end of June 1973 as Vice President in protest against the Loffler Plan.
The Loffler plan was meant to be a change in teacher training law that limited the free choice of examiners in the state examination. Uwe Wesel in March 2001 resigned . He continued with work as a lawyer from 2006.
