Ursula Cantieni is a veteran Swiss-German actress born on December 5, 1947 in Zurich, Switzerland. She was raised by her parents in Graubünden where she started her education.
She passed her Abitur in Stuttgart and continued to the University of Music and Performing Arts where she studied acting and speech training. After she graduated from Arts school, she worked at the Folkwangschule in Essen as a lecturer and then a professor.
After several years of teaching, Cantieni decided to go into acting too. She then landed her first acting role in 1980 in a play by Rainer Werner Fassbinder titled “Bremer Freiheit” where she played the role of “Geesche”.
Her performance as “Geesche” in the play received critical acclaim. Hence she was motivated to continue acting and went on to perform in a number of stage productions for ten years that saw her move to places like Munich, Berlin, France, Amsterdam, Zurich and Chur.
She then decided to start her own theater production in 1989 known as “L’Alsace Sans Culottes”. But even before starting her own theater production, Cantieni had already started appearing films and TV series.
She is well known for her longstanding role in the television series “Die Fallers – Die SWR Schwarzwaldserie” as Johanna Faller from 1994 to 2023 where she retired. Addie that, she is also well known for being a member of the team on “Sag die Truth” from 2003 to 2022.
Other films and TV shows she is known for include Tatort – Gebrochene Herzen (2006), The Fisherman’s War On Lake Constance (1996), The Last Guest (1989), etc.
She served as President of the Swiss Women’s foundation “Irma Landolt – Lechner” from 1991 to 2011. She was honored with the medal of merit by the state of Baden-Wüttemberg in 2005.
