Lenore Tamara Danz, known as Tamara Danz, was a renowned East German rock singer and lyricist.
She was born on December 14, 1952, in Breitungen, Bezirk Suhl, and spent her early years there. She began singing in East Berlin in 1971 with the band Die Cropies. Her love of music was clear from a young age.
Danz initially pursued her degree in languages but quickly discovered that music was her genuine passion.
She was turned down by the esteemed Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler,” but she persisted and carried on singing with numerous bands, notably the politically charged vocal ensemble Oktoberklub.
She eventually graduated from the Friedrichshain School of Music in 1977, completing the criteria to work as a professional musician in East Germany.
Danz joined Familie Silly in 1978; the group changed its name to Silly in 1980.
She rapidly became well known for her strong and distinctive voice, and in 1981 she was named the finest female rock singer in East Germany, receiving the title “Rocklady Nr. 1 der DDR.” She then won this esteemed championship three more times in 1983, 1985, and 1986.
