Rudolf (“Rudi”) Anton Engelhard, a Bavarian politician and CSU member, was born on March 10, 1950, in Creußen, near Bayreuth. Engelhard was raised in Wolnzach by his father, a police sergeant. He began his political career as the Junge Union’s district chairman from 1970 until 1974.
After finishing his forester studies at the Bavarian Technical School for Forestry in Lohr am Main, Engelhard began working at the Munich Forestry Directorate in 1972.
State Minister Hans Eisenmann hired him in 1974 to work for the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. He continued schooling at Weihenstephan University of Applied Sciences and then served as an instructor at the Bavarian Administrative School.
Engelhard has previously held public office, including serving on the Upper Bavaria district council from 1982 to 1986. He also served on the city council of Pfaffenhofen a der Ilm from 1984 until 1996.
Engelhard served in the Bavarian State Parliament from 1986 until 1996, representing the direct mandate of Pfaffenhofen beginning in 1990.
Engelhard took over as district administrator of Pfaffenhofen adIlm, Upper Bavaria, from Traugott Scherg in 1996. He was re-elected in 2002 but lost in the 2008 municipal elections when Josef Schäch of the Free Voters’ Party won the runoff.
