Biography
Mickey is an American actor and former professional boxer who has mostly starred in drama, action, and thriller movies.
He was born on September 16, 1952, in Schenectady, New York.
At the age of 12, he began training at Miami Beach’s renowned 5th Street Gym, where he had an amateur record of 27 victories and 3 defeats. He stopped boxing in the early 1970s after sustaining a string of concussions.
Rourke’s film career took off in the early 1980s with standout performances in films like Body Heat (1981) and Diner (1982), the latter earning him a National Society of Film Critics Award.
He secured his leading man status in Rumble Fish (1983), The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984), Year of the Dragon (1985), and the erotic hit 9½ Weeks (1986).

However, it was his role as the hard-bitten Marv in Sin City (2005) that signaled his reentry into mainstream Hollywood.
In Darren Aronofsky’s 2008 film The Wrestler, Rourke played aged professional wrestler Randy “The Ram” Robinson, which marked the beginning of his real comeback. He became a power in the business again when the part garnered him a Golden Globe, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor, and an Academy Award nomination.
Rourke had appearances in commercially successful films like Iron Man 2 (2010), The Expendables (2010), and Immortals (2011) after The Wrestler. He kept working on lesser projects, like Nightmare Cinema (2018), The Palace (2023), and Ashby (2015).
In 2014, Rourke staged a one-off boxing comeback in Moscow, winning an exhibition match. While later reports suggested the bout may have been staged, it reflected Rourke’s ongoing desire to test himself.
