Michael Klar was a German graphic artist, designer and professor of visual communication born in 1943. Michael Klar was born in Berlin and it must be noted that he qualified to practise as a photographer in Berlin. He had the qualification from the Lette-Verein. He had his education at the Visual Communication Department of the renowned “Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm”, Germany.
He was at the Visual Communication Department of the renowned “Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm”, Germany from 1963 and completed in 1966. Some of his tutors were Otl Aicher, Herbert W. Kapitzki and Tomás Maldonado.
After school, Michael Klar served as an assistant in the Kapitzki/Ohl project group for the pavilion of the Federal Republic of Germany at the world exhibition EXPO 67 Montreal, Canada. This was between 1966 and 1967. In 1968, Michael Klar earned a diploma HfG (Hochschule für Gestaltung) Ulm.
He also served as student spokesman at a time the school was forced to close down. He participated in the development of a design lab, the “Holzäpfel Projekt Institut” between 1968 and 1970. He also initiated the “Project Co’”, a design studio in Ulm in 1970 with the architect known as Bernd Meurer.
He was called to Visual Communication to the “Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd” as a professor in 1972 and his aim was to influence the concepts and program of the college.
He organized several guest professorships in various design schools such as the Ohio State University, USA, the Emily Carr University of Art and Design Vancouver, Canada and the Università Iuav di Venezia, Italy. Michael Klar served in the capacity of founding dean of the “Faculty of Gestaltung” at the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft in Dresden, Germany from 1992 to 1994.
He also lectured at the “Hochschule der Künste Berlin” from 1992 till 2008.
Michael Klar Cause of Death
Michael Klar died on September 2, 2023. He was 80 years old at the time of his death. The cause of his death is yet to be updated.
