Who Was María Félix?
María Félix was a notable Mexican actress and singer born María de los Ángeles Félix Güereña on April 8, 1914. She was born to a military officer father named Bernardo Félix Flores and Josefina Güereña Rosas.
She was initially raised in Álamos where she was born. However, when she was 17, they later moved to Guadalajara where she attended University of Guadalajara.
Félix was a natural beauty and was adored by many and went ahead to capitalize on that to contest in the University’s beauty contest which she won. She was then crowned as the Beauty Queen at the University of Guadalajara.
Before becoming an actress, Felix initially worked in the office of a plastic surgeon in Mexico City as a receptionist. She then met filmmaker Fernando Palacios one faithful day after work who introduced the idea of acting to her.
She was initially reluctant but later agreed and the rest they say is history. Throughout her acting career, Félix travelled beyond the shores of Mexico to make a name for himself in European countries such as Spain, Italy and France.
She is regarded as one of the most successful figures of Latin American cinema and also one of the most beautiful actresses of her time.
Away from acting, Félix was also a model and a singer. Her beauty attracted a lot of offers from renowned painters who always wanted to paint her.
The likes of Leonora Carrington, Leonor Fini, Diego Rivera, Bridget Tichenor, José Clémente Orozco, etc have all painted Félix.
Unfortunately, her love life wasn’t as successful as her career. She was in and out of four marriages and a few other relationships.
She first married a cosmetics sales agent named Enrique Álvarez Alatorre from 1931 to 1938 and then secondly to Agustin Lara from 1945 to 1947. Felix gave marriage another try in 1953 where she married Jorge Negrete.
Unfortunately, Negrete died barely a year after they got married. She then married for the fourth time in 1956 to Alexander Berger who also died in 1974 due to lung cancer.
Félix died on April 8, 2002 at the age of 88 in her sleep in Mexico City.

Unfortunately, she got to find out on December 26, 1937 that Pablo died of suicide at the Military College of Mexico City. However, she was of the view that he was killed by someone.
