Lorne Greene was born on February 12, 1915, and he was a Canadian actor, singer, musician and radio personality. He is known to have played roles such as Ben Cartwright on the Western Bonanza and Commander Adama in the original science-fiction television series Battlestar Galactica and Galactica 1980.

Lorne Greene also worked on a Canadian television nature documentary series.

The documentary series was titled Lorne Greene’s New Wilderness. Lorne Greene also made appearances in some television commercials. The first marriage of Lorne Greene was to Rita Hands of Toronto. Lorne Greene and Rita Hands gave birth to twins in 1945.

The twins were Charles and Belinda Susan. Due to the fact that the marriage did not last, Lorne Greene subsequently got married to his second wife; Nancy Deale.

Nancy Deale and Lorne Greene had a child called Gillian Dania Greene.

Lorne Greene was reported to have died on September 11, 1987. At the time of his death, he was 72 years old.

Lorne Greene died as a result of complications from pneumonia. The pneumonia came up after an ulcer surgery at the Saint John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California. Lorne Greene was buried at Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City.

Honours and Awards

Lorne Greene was honoured as Officer of the Order of Canada on October 28, 1969, and it was in regard for her services to the Performing Arts as well as humanity.

He was also awarded an honorary doctor of law degree by Queen’s University in 1971. Lorne Greene was a student of Queen’s University so many years back. It is important to note that Lorne Greene received the Earle Grey Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Canadian Gemini Awards in 1987.

He also has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1559 N.Vine Street. Another award received by Lorne Greene is the Golden Plate Award in 1974 at the American Academy of Achievement.

He was also the Krewe of Bacchus King of Mardi Gras in February 1985 and in May 2006, Canada Post honored.
