Joshua Baganz’s Biography
Joshua Baganz was a 16-year-old teenager whose life was tragically cut short in December 2021.
Joshua went missing on his way to school in Berlin-Hellersdorf on December 3rd. His parents, determined to find their son, conducted a comprehensive search that included social media and media outreach.
Joshua’s body was recovered three weeks later, on Christmas Day, in a green area in Biesdorf’s Marzahn-Hellersdorf sector.
Joshua’s death shook his family, friends, and the entire town. Following an inquiry, the police concluded that there was no evidence of foul play in his death.
Despite their hopes that Joshua had merely run away, his parents were forced to accept the devastating fact that their son had died.
Throughout the search for Joshua, his family received an outpouring of love and sympathy from both their local community and from people all across the world.
They created a Facebook group called “We are looking for Joshua” to give search updates and garner support. During the search, the page became a major hub for sharing information and messages of encouragement.
Joshua’s family turned to Facebook on Christmas Day to announce the heartbreaking news of his death. They expressed their appreciation for the help they had received throughout the hunt, recognising the hope it had given them.
They did, however, convey their pain and emptiness, emphasising the immense loss they were experiencing as a family.
In the middle of their sadness, Joshua’s father, Rico Baganz, took to Twitter to express his appreciation for the outpouring of concern and support. Despite their enormous grief, the family appreciated the kindness and care exhibited by others during this difficult time.
Joshua’s family sought to find peace throughout the Christmas season as the days passed. Given their sad loss, Joshua’s father acknowledged the difficulties they encountered in trying to instil Christmas joy in the rest of the family.
