Hazel Brugger is a Swiss-American slam poet, comedian, cabaret artist and television presenter. Hazel Brugger was born on December 9, 1993. Her father is Peter Brugger, a neuropsychologist and her mother is an English teacher. Hazel Brugger’s mother is originally from Cologne. Hazel Brugger has both Swiss and American citizenship.

She was raised in Dielsdorf near Zürich and she has two elder brothers. With respect to education, she attended the University of Zurich,  studying philosophy and literature but she did not complete.

Hazel Brugger’s  poetry slam career started in  Winterthur when she was just 17 years. She was a columnist for a Swiss daily newspaper, Das Magazin between 2014 and 2017 and also wrote for  “Hochparterre” and the TagesWochebetween 2013 and 2014.

She also served as the moderator of the live talk “Hazel Brugger Show and Tell” in the Theater Neumarkt[7] in Zürich in 2015. Hazel Brugger was the winner of the  Swiss champions’ title of the fourth Poetry Slam Championships on October 9, 2013.

She commenced her first cabaret programme “Hazel Brugger passiert” in November 2015 and since  February 2019, she has toured Switzerland, Germany and Austria with her second solo programme “Tropical”.

Hazel Brugger has been a correspondent on the German political satire show Heute-show on ZDF since 2016. She won the Salzburger Stier, a prize for cabaret artists in 2017; the youngest person to ever win this award.

Hazel Brugger got married to German comedian and author Thomas Spitzer. They have been married since 2020. Hazel Brugger announced her pregnancy in October 2020.

Thomas Spitzer was born on September 29, 1988and he is a German author, comedian and online producer. His father is the German professor and publicist Manfred Spitzer.

Thomas Spitzer had his education at the University of Regensburg from 2008 to 2012. He read math, economics and philosophy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science. He has six siblings.

Thomas Spitzer has won over 200 poetry slams in Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. He reached the semi-finals of the German championships in Heidelberg in 2012 and placed third Bavarian championships in 2015.
