Horst Buchholz was a German actor who was born on December 4, 1933. He is known to have featured in more than 60 feature films between 1951 and 2002. In his youthful days, Horst Buchholz had the nickname The German James Dean.
In English-speaking countries, Horst Buchholz is well-known for films such as The Magnificent Seven (1960), One Two Three (1961) and Life Is Beautiful (1997). It must be noted that Horst Buchholz was born in Berlin to Maria Hasenkamp but he never had the chance to know his biological father.
It was the surname of his stepfather, Hugo Buchholz that he used. His mother got married to Hugo, a shoemaker in 1938. Horst Buchholz had Heidi as his half-sister. Heidi was born in 1941. Horst Buchholz relocated to Silesia during World War II and after the war, he settled in a foster home in Czechoslovakia.
He later found his way to Berlin and made some time for his education. After education, he started seeking for theater work and he made his first appearance on stage in 1949. With time, Horst Buchholz ventured into foreign-language voice dubbing.
Later in 1951, he played roles on Warun?(1951) as well as Adventure in Berlin (1952). Horst Buchholz was also featured in Marianne of My Youth (1954) and in the TV movie Die Schule Der Vater. He also played roles in Sky Without Stars (1955) and Regine (1956).
He played a role in Die Halbstarken(1956) which made him a teen star in Germany. He was also featured in King in Shadow(1957), The Girl and the Legend(1957), and Confessions of Felix Krull(1957). It must be noted that Horst Buchholz also featured in Two Worlds in 1958, Wet Asphalt (1958) and Auferstehung (1958).
Horst Buchholz Cause of Death
He died on March 3, 2003. He was 69 years old at the time of his death. The cause of his death was pneumonia. The pneumonia developed after an operation for a hip fracture.
Marriage
Horst Buchholz got married to French actress, Myriam Bru. Their marriage came off in 1958 and they had two children, Christopher and Beatrice.
Horst Buchholz revealed his bisexuality in an interview. His son, Christopher produced a feature-length documentary, Horst Buchholz…Mein Papa(2005) and it discussed the sexuality of his father.
