In terms of education, Heike Renate Peitsch is known to have studied at the University of Cologne after completing high school. While at the University, she studied Economics and completed with a diploma in 1987. She received her doctorate later in 1991 from the University of Cologne.
She joined the foreign service in 1988 and two years later, she passed the career test for the higher service. Between 1991 and 1994, Heike Renate Peitsch served as the Permanent Representative of the ambassador in Burundi and this was after she had spent some time working at the headquarters of the Foreign Office.
She also worked for a while at the Embassy in Israel before becoming the head of department in the department for Global issues in the foreign office in 2000.
Heike Renate Peitsch served as the Ambassador in Armenia between 2004 and 2007. Between 2007 and 2010, she worked in the foreign office in Berlin.
It must be noted that between 2010 and 2013, Heike Renate Peitsch was the one in charge of the Department of Economics and Science at the German Embassy in Moscow. She was also the Consul General of Germany in St Petersburg from 2013 to 2016. Later in 2016, Heike Renate Peitsch began managing the German embassy in Tbilisi and returned to the foreign service in Berlin in 2018.
