Greta Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist who was born on January 3, 2003. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden. Her parents are Malena Ernman and Svante Thunberg. Malena Ernman was an opera singer and Svante Thunberg was an actor. The actor and director Olof Thunberg is her paternal grandfather. Greta Thunberg has a younger sister; Beata.

She is widely known for challenging world leaders over efforts to mitigate climate change. She is fluent in English and uses English in her interactions.

Greta Thunberg took up the life of an activist when she first persuaded her parents to take up lifestyle choices that reduced their own carbon footprint.

Greta Thunberg first heard about climate change in 2011 when she was eight years and became concerned about the issue. The issue of climate change got her depressed especially as she felt nothing was been done about it. In the process, she lost so much weight in just two months. She got diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD), and selective mutism.

In a campaign against carbon-intensive flying, Greta Thunberg attended the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit after travelling on a yacht to North America.
