Engelbert Humperdinck Biography
Engelbert Humperdinck, born Arnold George Dorsey MBE on May 2, 1936, is a British pop singer known for his smooth ballads.
With the release of “Release Me,” in 1967, he rose to prominence on a global scale. Initially beginning his career in the late 1950s as “Gerry Dorsey,” Humperdinck ultimately adopted the name, Engelbert Humperdinck.
In 1965, he formed a connection with manager Gordon Mills, which fueled his career.
Ballads by Humperdinck, including as “Release Me,” “The Last Waltz,” and “There Goes My Everything,” peaked at number one on the UK Singles Chart in 1967 and each sold over a million copies.
He kept putting out big songs like “Am I That Easy to Forget” and “A Man Without Love” quickly after each other. As a result of his popularity, Humperdinck’s ardent followers began calling themselves “Humperdinck.” During the 1960s, his singles were some of the best-selling in the UK.
Humperdinck enjoyed popularity in North America throughout the 1970s with songs like “After the Lovin’” and “This Moment in Time.” He rose to fame as a result of his many concert appearances.
With songs like “Lesbian Seagull” for the Beavis and Butthead Do America (1996) soundtrack and a dance album released in 1998, he saw a rise in popularity in the 1990s. Humperdinck has experimented with a range of musical endeavours during his career, including gospel and duet recordings.
With the song “Love Will Set You Free,” Humperdinck represented the UK at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.
He has had a more than 50-year career and has sold more than 140 million recordings while touring and recording. In the music business, Humperdinck is still regarded as an iconic personality.

Engelbert Humperdinck has nine siblings by the names of Dolly Dorsey, Peggy Dorsey, Irwin Dorsey, Tilly Dorsey, Pat Dorsey, Orga Dorsey, Arthur Dorsey, Bubbles Dorsey and Celine Dorsey.
