Dieter Stolte can be described as a German journalist and director of public broadcasting in Germany. Dieter Stolte was born on September 18 , 1934, in Cologne and he died on December 10, 2023, in Berlin . He was married with a daughter before he died of Parkinson’s disease in 2023 at the age of 89.
It must be noted that between 1982 and 2002, Dieter Stolte was director of Second German Television (ZDF). He was also the editor of the newspapers Die Welt and Berliner Morgenpost from 2002 to February 2010. He served as the chairman of the supervisory board of Ströer Media SE until June 2014. Dieter Stolte spent his childhood days in Cologne, Berlin, Saarbrücken, Gößnitz and Meerane.
With respect to education, it must be known that Dieter Stolte attended and graduated from the Gauß-Gymnasium in Worms . While at the Gauß-Gymnasium in Worms , he studied philosophy, history and German studies in Tübingen and Mainz from 1955 to 1961. Dieter Stolte became a member of the KStV Alamannia in the KV.
After school, he worked at Saarland Radio in 1961 as head of the science department. A year later, he moved to ZDF where he became personal assistant to director Karl Holzamer. At ZDF, he served in different positions; head of program planning (until 1973), program director (from 1977) to director of the station (March 15, 1982 to March 14, 2002). Dieter Stolte was the television director at Südwestfunk in Baden-Baden from 1973 to 1976 but he made a return to ZDF as program director in 1976.
He was also a professor of media theory and media practice at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and served on the supervisory board of Loremo AG. Dieter Stolte served as chairman of the museum association of the German Historical Museum in Berlin, board member of the Axel Springer Foundation, chairman of the editorial board of the private broadcaster radio B2, chairman of the supervisory board of Ströer Out-of-Home Media AG from August 2011 as well as a member of the board of trustees of the German Foundation for Monument Protection and as a member of the German Cancer Aid.

Others are 1997: International Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement, 1999: Sieghardt von Köckritz Prize, 1999: Order of Merit of the State of Berlin, 2000: Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class, 2001: Special Prize of the Robert Geisendörfer Prize, 2002: Golden Feather for his life’s work, 2002: Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great, 2002: Ring of Honor of the city of Mainz, 2002: Large Federal Cross of Merit with Star and 2015: Order of Merit of the Free State of Thuringia.
