Dan Peterson can be described as a former American professional basketball head coach. Dan Peterson was born on January 9, 1936, and with respect to education, he attended Evanston Township High School in Evanston, Illinois.
He earned his undergraduate degree after graduating from Northwestern University in Evanston. It must also be noted that Daniel Peterson had his master’s degree from the University of Michigan.
In his active years, Daniel Peterson worked as the assistant coach for NAIA school McKendree College. He served as the assistant coach from 1962 to 1963 and between 1963 and 1964, he was freshmen coach at Michigan State.
After just one season at Michigan State University, Daniel Peterson became the plebe coach at the United States Naval Academy. Daniel Peterson also worked as the head coach at the University of Delaware when he was 30 years old.
He spent five years at the University of Delaware and he recorded 69 wins and 49 losses. He was the acting head coach of the Chile national basketball team from 1971 to 1973.
He was on tour with the Chilean team in the United States of America in 1972. Dan Peterson coached Virtus Bologna in the Italian LBA from 1973 to 1978 and he was the proud winner of the 1974 “Coppa Italia”.
He also won the Italian League title in 1976. He was appointed head coach of Olimpia Milano in 1978and he won four Italian League titles with the team.
He won the Italian League in 1982, 1985, 1986 and 1987. Other achievements to his credit include two Italian Cups (1986, 1987), a Korać Cup (1985), and one European Champions Cup (EuroLeague) title.
Dan Peterson First Wife
The first wife of Dan Peterson is believed to be Laura. Dan Peterson retired after coaching in Italy for 24 years in 1978.
However, he made a comeback to coaching on January 3, 2011. He was with Olimpia Milano and this was after the sack of Piero Bucchi. Some of his awards include the Coach of the Year award for Europe from the WABC and the Coach of the Year for Italy twice.
He was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 1995 and in 2007, he was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Evanston Township High School
